Position Summary
Steel Forgings Inc. (SFI) is a leading manufacturer of custom butt weld fittings for the oil and gas industry. The Heat Treat Operator is responsible for performing heat treatment processes on metal products to achieve desired physical properties, operating furnaces and related equipment, monitoring process parameters, and ensuring all tasks meet technical specifications and safety standards.

The Heat Treat Operator is responsible for performing heat treatment processes on metal products to achieve desired physical properties, operating furnaces and related equipment, monitoring process parameters, and ensuring all tasks meet technical specifications and safety standards.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
- Operate and Monitor Equipment: Load and unload furnaces with fittings for heat treatment and operate associated equipment, including forklifts and cranes. Adjust controls and monitor temperature, timing, and atmosphere to ensure processes meet specifications, performing operations such as hardening, tempering, normalizing, etc.
- Read job travelers and comply with heat treat instructions for each order. Record processing parameters, equipment settings, and production data for quality control and compliance. Notify the Plant Supervisor of non-conforming parts.
- Maintenance & Safety: Perform routine inspections and maintenance on furnaces and related equipment. Adhere to company safety policies and procedures, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and handling high-temperature materials safely. Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- General Duties: Perform other assigned duties within the plant as requested.
- Prior experience operating heat treatment or industrial furnaces is preferred. Must be detail-oriented and possess problem-solving abilities to identify and resolve process deviations.
- Knowledge of heat treatment processes and temperature controls, metallurgy, and material properties.
- Certifications: Must be able to operate a forklift.
- Frequent movement including walking, standing, bending, stooping, lifting (up to 50 pounds), climbing, and other active movements.
